Outstandingly, this is one of Kigali’s remarkable market. Kimironko market is one of the biggest and best markets in Rwanda, with products ranging from second-hand clothing, fruits and vegetables, fish, fabric, and handcrafts such as baskets all sold in this covered complex.
Spend some time buying fruits and vegetables before buying gifts for everyone on your updated shopping list. The Agaseke baskets are beautifully woven, unique to Rwanda, and sold by in the dozens of stalls in Kimironko market.
Watch a soccer game at the Amahoro Stadium
Situated at the Remera neighbourhood, the multi-purpose Amahoro stadium is the largest in Rwanda with a capacity of about 30,000 people. Soccer matches are held here regularly, as Rwandese from all over Kigali come to support their teams.
The two most popular teams of Kigali are Police FC and Armée Patriotique Rwandaise FC (called APR), with league champions Rayon Sports FC based in Nyanza, the southern province of Rwanda. Games are a reliably rowdy, loud, and fun affair, a perfect getaway for visitors who would like to mingle with the locals. Join the chariot as you go to watch local football matches, concerts or even other public events.
Located in Kanombe, a neighborhood near the airport, the presidential palace was once home to the former President Juvenal Habyarimana who died in a plane crash together with Cyprian Ntaryamira of Burundi and about 60 other passengers. The remains of the presidential plane are still visible on the grounds, and the crash is credited as the reason for the beginning of the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
A visit to this museum is an interesting one as you get to learn about life and lifestyle of the former president. However, few photographs are allowed to be taken onsite especially in the interior of the building.

Inema Arts Center
Kigali’s art scene is on the rise. Unique and contemporary Rwandan art can be found all over the city, and Inema Arts Center houses some of Kigali’s best and brightest talent. The gallery was founded by brothers Emmanuel Nkuranga and Innocent Nkurunziza, and hosts the work of fourteen different Rwandese artists. In addition to beautiful pieces, happy hours (check them out on Thursday!), yoga classes, and other events can be found in their creative space.
