Christmas gorilla family ready for trekking.
Christmas Gorilla group is a newly habituated gorilla family group located in Nkuringo in the southern sector of Bwindi impenetrable national park. It has successfully led to the increase in number of Gorilla permits. This gorilla group is headed by Christmas, a dominant silverback that was born on Christmas day.
The Christmas gorilla family has 9 members though usually only 6 members canbe seen. The family has a recent addition of a new baby born to an adult female called Nyabwoba on January 20th, 2022. This makes the total of 7 members.
Nkuringo sector has 3 habituated gorilla families; Nkuringo, Bushaho and Christmas. With these 3 gorilla families, 24 gorilla permits from 8 are now available for tourists planning to track from this remarkable region/sector.

Much as Uganda is popular for the critically endangered mountain gorillas, don’t forget that Uganda is termed to as truly the “Pearl of Africa.”
There are other attractions such as the big five animals (lions, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes and elephants), members of the big cats like lions, leopards, cheetahs.
Other primates like Chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys and grey cheeked Mangabey among others. Talk of natural beautiful landscapes like waterfalls (Karuma, Murchison, Sezibwa and many others), mountains and the breathtaking scenery awaits tourists visiting the country.
In conclusion, it has always been everyone’s hope that more mountain gorillas are habituated in Uganda and the addition of new groups is one of the biggest milestones for the country’s tourism industry.
With $700 for a gorilla permit for Foreign Non-residents, $600 for Foreign residents and Ugandan shillings 250,000 for the East African Community, primate enthusiasts can now get the chance to track Katwe and Christmas Gorilla families in Buhoma and Nkuringo sectors respectively.
