This safari takes you to Lake Mburo National Park Uganda’s smallest savannah park and the closest park to Kampala. Lake Mburo supports substantial herds of Burchell’s zebras and various antelopes with exciting activities that are favorable for all family your members.

 Brief Itinerary

  • Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park
  • Day 2: Game drive and afternoon boat cruise
  • Day 3: Visit Igongo cultural center and museum – Hike the eclipse monument
  • Day 4: Walking safari and horseback riding
  • Day 5: Transfer to Kampala

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala>Lake Mburo National Park. After breakfast, your family will meet with the Jewel safaris professional driver guide, who will brief you about the safari then you will embark on the journey to south western Uganda with an enroute stop over at the equator for a photo session. After you will proceed to Lake Mburo National Park arriving in time for lunch. You will check in at the lodge, have lunch and afternoon relaxation as you prepare for the next day’s activities. The children can enjoy swimming at the lodge.

Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise. After early breakfast, you will head out for a game drive with chances of seeing animals like Burchell’s zebras, Nubian giraffes, buffaloes, impalas, elands, Defassa waterbucks, Bohor’s reedbuck, Common Duicker and klipspringers. After game drive, you will return for lunch as you prepare for an afternoon boat cruise. While on the boat cruise, you will be able spot more animal species including hippos, crocodiles, and bird species such as the African Fish Eagle, Pied King Fisher and African Finfoot in addition to the beautiful scenery and simple pleasure attached to being out on the water. Return to the lodge for evening relaxation dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Visit Igongo cultural centre and museum – hike the eclipse monument. Today after breakfast, you will drive to Igongo Cultural Centre and Museum in Biharwe. While here, you will have a guided tour through the museum and learn about the history and culture of the Ankole and Bakiga. After the museum tour, you can head out for a hike to the eclipse monument across Igongo Cultural Centre. This phenomenal hilltop monument comprising of a golden orb supported by a trio of pillars representing the three kings of Bunyoro, Ankole and Buganda, commemorates a historic solar eclipse associated with the emergence of the Ankole Kingdom. After the hike, you will have lunch at Igongo and then later transfer to the lodge for a relaxed afternoon.

Day 4: Walking safari and horseback riding. You will have breakfast and head out for a walking safari. The park is the only one where walking safaris are allowed in the company of an armed ranger. The walk gives you an opportunity to experience the nature of the park and get a close encounter with the animals. Your family is likely to catch sight of various antelopes, zebras and buffaloes. Return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will go for horseback riding across the savannah with wonderful views of the park, an exciting activity that kids can take part in too depending on the age. This adventurous activity takes you to different areas of the park seeing animals such as giraffes, warthogs, hippos, zebras, topis, elands, and duicker among other species. Later, you will return to the lodge for evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Lake Mburo>Kampala. After your breakfast, you will check-out of the lodge and embark on your journey to Kampala. You may have en-route stopover at the equator for yet another photo session with your family and you may also purchase some hand-made craft souvenirs before you proceed with your journey, arriving in Kampala in the afternoon. Optional drop off at the hotel or at the airport.
