Brief Itinerary – 6 Days Uganda Safari: Wildlife, Chimpanzee & Gorilla Trekking Tour

  • Day 1: Pick from a hotel in Entebbe and transfer to Kibale national park.
  • Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and nature walk.
  • Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park and do an afternoon boat cruise.
  • Day 4: Morning game drive tracking lions and an afternoon crater drive.
  • Day 5:  Transfer to Lake Mburo national park to do a night game drive.

Detailed Itinerary – 6 Days Uganda Safari: Wildlife, Chimpanzee & Gorilla Trekking Tour

Day 1: Pick from a hotel in Entebbe and transfer to Kibale National Park.

A brief encounter with your guide about the whole safari. This comes after the morning breakfast where we shall later embark on our journey to the southwestern part of the country. Along the way, there are a lot of highlights like fruit markets, different topography, and culture.

The journey can roughly take about 5 hours depending on how productive the way is. We shall then arrive in a town named after two European explorers (Gerald Portal and Fort Lugard) for lunch exposing us to both local and continental foods. After lunch, we can choose to visit one cultural-historical site (Amabere ga Nyina Mwiru). These are the effects of the stalagmites. After the experience, we can then drive to our hotel for check-in.

Meal Plan: Breakfast and Dinner

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Nature Walk.

After your early breakfast, we then drive to the chimpanzee briefing point where you will be briefed about the whole activity of tracking. You are always assigned to a game ranger and armed men to ensure safety from wild animals like forest elephants, buffaloes.

Through the forest, we embark on tracking our closest cousins as the ranger keeps in touch with the monitoring team on the ground. Upon arrival, you are given ample time to interact with the chimps depending on their moods.

Later you drive back to the hotel for lunch in preparation for an ultimate swamp and cultural experience with the Bigodi community. Among the activities to enjoy with the community there is local liquor, weaving of baskets, cultural dances, and of course visiting the cultural doctor. Later we drove back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park and do an afternoon boat cruise.

After our morning breakfast, we shall drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park through the beautiful crater lakes and view village experiences like the planting of matooke. Later we can visit the Kasoga community for the village experience around Lake George.

After the experience, we head to the hotel for lunch and a brief relaxation. In the evening we head out for a sundowner around the different crater lakes. Later we can head back to the lodge with a short game drive.

Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge, Elephant Hub, Twin’s Lake Safari Lodge, Pumba Safari Lodge, and Mazike Safari Lodge

Day 4: Morning game drive tracking lions and an afternoon crater drive.

Early morning breakfast then later embark on game viewing where we have chances to see the cats in action and other wildlife like elephants, Uganda kobs, bushbucks, defassa waterbuck, buffaloes and after have a brief visit at the salt lake Bunyampaka to see how salt is extracted.

We then drove back to the hotel for lunch in preparation for an ultimate boat cruise on the Kazinga channel (A 42 km stretch that joins  Lake Edward to Lake George), lakes named after the two sons of the queen of England. While on a relaxed cruise, you expect to see semi and aquatic wildlife like a big school of hippos, elephants swimming, giant forest hogs, Nile monitor lizards and Nile crocodiles. The cruise becomes more fun as we come face to face with a fishing village that borders Uganda and Congo. After the cruise, you can choose to take on an optional game drive or drive back to the lodge.

Day 5:  Transfer to Lake Mburo national park to do a night game drive.

Morning breakfast then visits Lake Katwe for more salt mining experience and village life then later embark on your journey to Lake Mburo making stopovers along the way for tea picking experience around Kalinzu Forest Reserve (you can choose to be part of the experience by engaging yourself in activities like tea picking). On a lucky day, you can spot chimps, blue monkeys, guerezza colobus, and red-tailed monkeys.

After the experience, you will later drive to Mbarara for a hot local lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre and if time allows, you can pay a visit to the eclipse monument in Biharwe. In the evening we shall arrive at Uganda’s smallest savannah national park but with a unique diversity of wildlife and history attachment. Among the animals to search for are the common elands, burchell’s zebras, klipspringer, harnessed bushbuck, impalas. You can choose to take on an optional night safari drive bringing you to close encounters with nocturnal species like African genet cats, leopards, greater bushbabies, and night birds like giant eagle owl, black-shouldered nightjar. 

Overnight at: Rwakobo Rock Lodge, Mihingo Safari Lodge, Eagle’s Nest Safari Lodge, and Kigambira Safari Lodge

Day 6: Morning game drive and transfer to Entebbe for your flight back home.

On our last day of the trip shortly after having breakfast, we then take a combined village and cultural walk having a close encounter with the Ankole longhorn cows that are believed to be the descendants of the Zebu species from Egypt. Among the activities to engage in is milking them.

After the visit, we then start our drive to Entebbe for your safe flight back home with a lunch stop at the equator bringing your 6 days vacation to a colorful and pleasant memorial end.
