Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park, located in south-western Uganda, occupies an area of 1,978 square kilometers and it offers a variety of wildlife.  Queen Elizabeth National Park is the most popular tourist destination in Uganda.  The diverse ecosystems within the park include savanna, humid forests, lakes and fertile wetlands; it is a perfect habitat for the big game (100 mammals), 10 primate species, including Chimpanzees and over 600 species of birds.

In the park one must visit the Kazinga Channel; here its banks are lined with hippos, buffaloes and elephants.  Also the Ishasha Plains are a must; the famous tree climbing lions hide in the fig trees, ready to pounce on their prey.  The Kyambura Gorge is home to the habituated chimps, and the Maramagambo Forest is full of forest monkeys and birds.  The crater lakes are home of the flocks of flamingos.  Queen Elizabeth National Park is so diverse and one needs a few days to cover it all.

The activities in Queen Elizabeth National Park are extensive, the most popular being the Game Drives.  In addition, there is excellent Birding opportunities, unique Cave Exploration, Hiking, Nature Walks, and Chimp Tracking.  Launch trips on the Kazinga Channel to see the hippos, buffaloes and elephants can be very exciting.  Wildlife Research tours are available to participate in, as well as Cultural heritage guided tours.

THE BUSH LODGE

The Bush Lodge or Bush Camp, is located just outside the park boundaries, overlooking the Kainga Channel.  Here there are a number of tented rooms with ensuite bush showers; complete with verandahs, this is considered a mid-range accommodation.  Self-camping is available thebushlodge.

LOCATION:

The Bush Lodge is located just outside the park boundaries.  From Kasese, travel towards the park gate; about 5 past 500 meters past he Kazinga Channel bridge you will find a maram road…..follow this for 2 kms..  It is well signposted on the road.

ISHASHA WILDERNESS CAMP

ISHASHA WILDERNESS CAMP is located on the Ntungwe River, within the Southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park.  The accommodation is a number of platformed canvas rooms, each comfortably furnished and with private bathrooms.  The Ishasha Wilderness Camp QENPUganda 44

lodge is set on 34 acres of riverbank across from the riverine forest with black and white colobus monkeys, red tail monkeys and baboons as your neighbors.  Self-camping is available on the property.

LOCATION:

Ishasha Wilderness Camp is inside the Queen Elizabeth National Park, on the Ntugwe River.  It is midway between the Mweya section of Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

MWEYA HOSTELS

MWEYA HOSTELS provides budget accommodation within the boundaries of the Queen Elizabeth National Park.  There are single and double rooms with shared bathrooms and toilets.  Self-contained rooms are available, they accommodate 4 – 6 people; these are mweyahostelscomplete with a kitchen and sitting room.

LOCATION:

Mweya Hostels is next to the Mweya Safari Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park.   Enter through the second gate from Kampala, the Kabatoro Gate.  There are signposts inside the park gates to the Lodge, we are very nearby.
